Our History

Since 1957, we have been bringing children to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at Lake Waccamaw.

How It Started

Ambassador Camp was founded by Mrs. Sara E. Sledge on the shores of Lake Waccamaw back in 1957.

What started as a small vision to reach boys and girls for Jesus has blossomed into the Ambassador Camp we know and love today. Through her dedication and determination to let the Lord use her, Aunt Sara, as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, impacted thousands of lives for the Kingdom.

As we enter our 65th year of ministry, we are grateful for God’s continued faithfulness to Ambassador Camp.

How It’s Going

Ambassador Camp is located on the same lake-front property that was purchased in the 1960’s when we had outgrown the two cottages that Aunt Sara had been renting for summer camp.

While our location is still the same, our camp family now extends across the United States and other countries!

We welcome new families to Ambassador Camp annually, while also reuniting with many former campers who now have children of their own carrying on the tradition of camping with us. We love connecting with campers and staff, regardless of whether it’s their 1st or 50th time on our grounds.

Does that sound like something you want to be a part of? To register your camper click here, or learn more about our staff.

“A lot of smiles go on at this place. There’s a lot of fun that is a part of Camp, but also just so many opportunities to grow as a person.”

— Amy Hicks, Music Director & Board Member

What We Believe

Ambassador Camp is not affiliated with any particular denomination, but we do consider ourselves an evangelical Christian camp. Doctrinally, we are committed to:

  • The full and final authority of the Bible.

  • The trinity of the Godhead, externally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • The full deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, and bodily resurrection.

  • The absolute need of all people for salvation, available only through the grace of Jesus Christ and His merits, and received by faith in him alone.

  • The personality of the Holy Spirit, who imparts spiritual life at conversion and sustains that life for spiritual growth and development according to God’s plan.

  • The personal and actual return of Jesus Christ to earth at the end of the act to set up His kingdom and judge the world.
